CWS Sliding & Patio Doors: The Miami Beach Owner’s Guide

We stock rollers, handles, locks, and weatherstripping for CWS sliding and patio doors in Miami Beach, and we install them for between $185 and $520 depending on which part failed and how many panels need work. Most CWS hardware replacements we do the same day we look at the door, because we keep the common failure points on the truck. What usually brings a Miami Beach homeowner to this page is a door that suddenly drags, a handle that spins without engaging, or a lock that no longer catches and gives the door a little rattle when the wind comes off Biscayne Bay. These are never random failures. The salt air here finds the weak component first, and it is usually the part that was cheapest to make.

Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS built several sliding and patio door lines over the years, and parts are not universal across them. The 8000 Series and the 9000 Series use different roller carriage heights, and the 9000’s tandem roller assemblies are roughly 3/16 inch taller than the 8000’s. If you install the wrong height, the door panel sits too low and the lock stile catches on the track. The fast way to identify what you have is the white sticker near the top of the operable panel’s edge. It will show a serial number and usually the series. If the sticker is gone, the bottom edge of the door frame has two weep slots on the 8000 and three on the 9000. That distinction has saved a lot of wasted trips.

We order OEM CWS parts when the factory still supports the series, and for older doors we use proven aftermarket equivalents from Caldwell and Prime-Line matched to the exact roller diameter and axle length. We do not use generic generic rollers that “should fit.” In Miami Beach, should-fit hardware becomes a callback within a season. TruePane is an independent service provider, not affiliated with CWS, but the parts we install are matched to CWS tolerances either by manufacturer spec or by measurement in the opening.

Signs Your CWS Sliding & Patio Doors Is Failing

  • The door drags or you have to lift it to move it. This means the roller wheels have worn flat or the bearings inside them have seized. Miami Beach’s sand and salt get into the track, grind the nylon wheels down, and the panel starts riding on the metal carriage instead of the wheels.
  • The handle spins or moves up and down without moving the latch. The internal locking gear inside the handle escutcheon is stripped. CWS used a die-cast gear on many models, and after enough years of use or one good yank while the door was locked, the teeth round off.
  • The lock latches but you can pull the door open a quarter inch. This is usually a worn keeper on the jamb side, not the lock itself. The keeper gets filed down over time by the latch bolt, especially on doors that face the wind. In Miami Beach, ocean-facing panels get it worst.
  • Water stains form on the track or the floor near the door’s bottom corner. The interlock weatherstrip between the fixed and sliding panels has hardened and split. Once it cracks, driving rain follows the split straight through the interlock and onto the floor.
  • There is a rattle when the door is closed and locked. The panel is loose in the track because the rollers are no longer carrying the weight evenly. That rattle is the panel vibrating against the frame, and over time it widens the track’s wear points.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

CWS sliding and patio door hardware replacement in Miami Beach runs $185 to $520 including parts and labor. Rollers are at the lower end, around $185 to $280 for both panels depending on whether we adjust the track and realign the door. A handle and lock set runs $210 to $340. Full weatherstripping and interlock replacement tends to fall around $260 to $400 on a two-panel door. When a door has multiple issues, which happens in salt-air climates, the total lands in the $450 to $520 range.

Every quote is a written line item. You see the exact part numbers, the cost of each, and our labor as its own number. If it is not on the quote, it is not on the bill. Our workmanship is guaranteed under the Done Right Promise, and if a part fails within that window we replace it and we do not send you to a phone tree to talk about it.

DIY or Call Us?

Sliding door hardware is not in the same category as torsion springs or electrical work, but that does not mean it is safe to guess at. A sliding door panel weighs 80 to 160 pounds in CWS sizes, and pulling one out without controlling the rollers and the top guide can put that panel on your foot or through the glass. What you can do safely is clean the track with a stiff brush and a vacuum, check whether the weep holes are clear, and tighten the visible screws on the handle escutcheon. If the door still drags or rattles after that, the rollers are worn and the panel has to come out. That is the point where we would rather be the ones holding it. You can reach a live person at (386) 406-9359 whenever you want to schedule a look, and the estimate is free. If it is not right in the opening, it is not right.

What Neighbors Say About TruePane Windows & Doors

★★★★

"Sliding door had been dragging for years. They quoted a repair first, said the track was shot, then priced the replacement both ways on paper. No pressure either direction. Door glides with one finger now."

CCarol M.
★★★★★

"A casement crank had stripped and the sash was swollen shut. The technician, Ray, fixed the crank on the spot and only then talked about replacement for the three windows that were genuinely done. That is why the whole street uses them now."

EEleanor G.
★★★★★

"French doors to the patio, custom size because this house was built in 1961 and nothing is standard. Measured twice, three weeks to fabricate like they warned, and the install day they laid runners over my floors without being asked."

MMarie S.
★★★★★

"Impact windows on the whole house. They handled the permit, the inspection, and gave me a folder with every approval number for the insurance company. My windstorm premium dropped enough to notice."

BBill T.
★★★★★

"Our bay window had rotted at the sill and two other outfits wanted to talk us into a flat picture window instead. TruePane rebuilt the opening and matched the original look. Neighbors have knocked on the door about it."

GGene A.
★★★★★

"Eleven windows replaced in two days. The crew chief, Marcus, showed me the level on every single frame before they caulked it. My wife noticed the street noise was gone before I did."

RRonald P.
★★★★★

"Whole-house window replacement at 71 years old is not something you want to do twice. Dale walked the house himself for the quote. Crew was the same three men all four days, and the foreman knew every window by room."

PPat and Ray L.
★★★★

"Quote was the price, which after three other bids that grew legs was worth something. Double-hungs went in clean, they hauled the old ones, and the registration paperwork for the warranty came in the mail like they said."
